Fireside Chats

Addressing the experiences of women of color in the law

The Women of Color Task Force will host a fireside chat series consisting of interviews with women of color from various practice areas. Each chat will focus on topics related to the pillars of the taskforce. Young lawyers will be able to gain valuable insight from guest speakers, as the chats will examine the unique experiences of women of color in the legal profession and the innovative approaches used to overcome challenges. This series will also provide an opportunity for young lawyers to engage with guest speakers through casual and relatable dialogue.

This program will challenge attendees to reframe their tolerance for failure. Speakers will address the psychology of failure and resiliency. Attendees will leave with an understanding of the steadfast spirit, the significance of turning mistakes into stepping stones, and feel empowered to embrace failure and choose resiliency.

Disaster Legal Services

Through the Disaster Legal Services Program, the ABA Young Lawyers Division (ABA YLD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provide immediate temporary legal assistance to disaster survivors at no charge.

This annual contest provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about our legal system, justice, get creative and win prizes. It is open to students, student groups, and classes attending a public or private high school, or being home schooled, within the United States and in grades 9-12 or the equivalent.

YLD Subgrants - Public Service, Bar Leadership and Membership

Subgrants are awarded annually by the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (YLD), with support from the ABA Fund for Justice and Education. The program is designed to promote quality projects developed by affiliated young lawyer organizations and to assist in the success of the program by providing support through program funding.
